ShP collects and recycles Nike's laptops and other IT equipment
As part of Nike's CSR initiative, the company is looking to maximise recycling of its redundant IT and small office electronics from UK based locations. Lancaster based ShP Ltd has agreed with Nike to collect and recycle laptops and other IT equipment with a possible view to including other items such as mobile phones and blackberries.
John Gardner, IT support and operations supervisor at Nike UK Ltd, said: “ShP Limited offers Nike a complete, end-to-end solution, for safe, quality and environmentally friendly disposal and reuse service for redundant electronics. We consider ShP more like a partner than a supplier. We appreciate their innovation, straightforward service and responsiveness to our requests.”
Simon Walsh, co founder of ShP Limited, said: “Working with Nike proves there’s a growing awareness amongst businesses that recycling is key to hitting green targets imposed by the government, promoting CSR and helping lower environmental impact. We offer a free collection service for all electronics in the office and home and make charitable donations on behalf of the company where possible.”
Components in computers are highly toxic and harmful to the environment. Circuit boards, batteries and colour cathode ray tubes contain hazardous materials such as lead, mercury and chromium. If electronics aren’t disposed properly these toxins can be released into the environment, the ground and water through landfill, or in the form of toxic incinerated ash.
ShP Limited, based in Lancaster, collects and recycles electronic and electrical items free of charge from business across the UK. Clients include Google and Yahoo.
