Minibus powered by a hydrogen fuel cell
The University of Glamorgan, near Pontypridd in South Wales, has developed a 16-seater vehicle, which is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. The minibus is being showcased around the UK as an example of the potential of environmentally-friendly vehicles.
Experts at the university hope that the minibus will be the first in a long line of technological developments using fuel cell technology to deliver eco-friendly modes of transport and for use as other power sources.
"We have ambitious plans for this technology and hope that the work done at Glamorgan will pave the way for further work in the development of hydrogen powered fuel cell technology," Jonathan Williams, who is involved in the research at the university, told the BBC.
The fuel cell minibus has been shown at the Tenth Grove Fuel Cell Symposium in Westminster, after which it will be put to practical use, taking students between the university's campuses.
