Energy consumption trading system for CO2 emissions receives European Commission go-ahead(24/07/2009)
The UK's proposed energy consumption trading system for CO2 emissions has received the go-ahead from the European Commission. Under EU state aid rules, the Commission has to authorise any national schemes that constitute direct or indirect state aid to companies. The "Carbon Reduction Commitment" (CRC) system proposed by the UK would apply to non-energy intensive sectors, which are not covered by the EU Emission Trading System.
