Pressure on local authorities to recycle more could result in a quantity not quality approach to processing waste

Under the EU Landfill Directive the UK is committed to reducing Biodegradable Municipal Waste (BMW) sent to landfill. This requires reductions against 1995 tonnages of 35% by 2010, 50% by 2013, and 65% by 2020.
