PFI funding allocated to South London Waste Partnership

The Department for the Environment and Rural Affairs (Defra) has announved that the UK central government has awarded the South London Waste Partnership (Croydon, Kingston, Merton and Sutton councils) £112.9 million of Private Finance Initiative (PFI) funding. The South London Waste Partnership (SLWP) is made up of four councils: Croydon, Kingston, Merton and Sutton. Their combined population is 868,000. The total municipal waste generated by the four boroughs is about 420,000 tonnes per year. A state-of-the-art waste management facility that will handle the household rubbish of four south London boroughs has moved a step closer.
