OFTECs publishes a provisional fuel specification for a bio-liquid blend(26/07/2011)
Oil Firing Technical Association (OFTEC) has published a provisional fuel specification for a bio-liquid blend. Now that a provisional standard has been agreed, oil companies, distributors and government will all be consulted on how to make the fuel commercially available at the right price for consumers. Part of this process will involve a political and press campaign by OFTEC to persuade the government that bio-liquids should be eligible for pa... [more]
New B30K biofuel for heating and cooking eligible for the proposed Renewable Heat Incentive(05/08/2010)
The Oil Firing Technical Association (OFTEC) have tested fuels which blended either 30% or 50% of the bio element, fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) with either kerosene or gas-oil. The FAME was derived from used cooking oil. The fuel that blends 30% FAME with 70% kerosene (B30K) has been accepted by the Government as eligible for the proposed Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). If this is introduced households converting to the fuel will receive a s... [more]
Homes currently heated by oil could receive incentive payments for switching to a new bio-liquid heating fuel(05/02/2010)
OFTEC was instrumental in the successful campaign to include the option of using blends of bio liquids to heat buildings in the consultation paper for the proposed Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), which was issued by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) earlier this month. Under the proposed RHI, homes and other buildings using renewable heat technologies will qualify for regular incentive payments from OFGEM for up to 20 years af... [more]
New project to determine how bio-heating oil blend could replace traditional gas for domestic and commercial heating(07/02/2008)
The Oil Firing Technical Association (OFTEC) and the ICOM Energy Association (ICOM) have joined forces on a new biofuels research project. The project will cost £0.25m, and will determine how a bio-heating oil blend could replace traditional off gas main fuels for domestic and commercial heating applications. Jeremy Hawksley, OFTEC Director General, explained “with fossil fuels becoming more expensive as oil demand increases in developing cou... [more]
