EDF Energies Nouvelles has announced the signature of a deal with Clipper Turbine Works, a subsidiary of US manufacturer Clipper Windpower, to supply 27 wind turbines, each with 2.5 MW in capacity, to build the La Ventosa wind farm in Mexico.
This order will help EDF Energies Nouvelles to take a decisive step forward with its plans to build the 67.5 MW wind farm in Oaxaca, Mexico. Construction is due to be completed by year-end 2009. The electricity generated will supply several Wal-Mart stor... [more]
The Energy Saving Trust is not supporting Ofgem's expected proposals on Green Tariffs because:
1. They are misleading. Consumers presume that green means that the energy produced comes from a renewable source. A study commissioned by Ofgem shows that for most, 'green' in energy terms means the same thing as renewable energy. The study goes on to say that most expect all of the electricity included in the tariff to be from renewable sources. The Energy Saving Trust's own research shows that ... [more]
Foster Wheeler Ltd. has announced that a subsidiary of its Global Power Group has been awarded a contract by E.ON Värme Sverige AB, Sweden for a waste-fuel-fired circulating fluidized-bed (CFB) boiler island to be located at the combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Norrkoping, Sweden.
This waste-to-energy plant using Foster Wheeler’s CFB technology will divert waste headed for landfills and convert it into valuable steam and electricity. Foster Wheeler CFBs have inherently low levels of SOX... [more]
A wide-ranging review of the passenger car market over the past four decades by the Energy Saving Trust has found that car buyers are making "poor choices, both economically and environmentally" when it comes to buying new cars - despite good incentives to choose low CO2 vehicles and a wider range of vehicle models available.
And it points to a "market failure", citing "the current market structure, where more desirable cars within vehicle model ranges tend to have higher CO2 emissions and la... [more]
Technology currently exists for analyzing cost and performance of solar systems, developing parabolic trough technology for solar electricity generation, and developing advanced technologies such as concentrating photovoltaics (solar panels).
The Holy Grail for solar panel manufacturers is to engineer and commercially manufacture solar panels that can produce one watt of power for under a dollar, without subsidies, making solar energy generally cheaper than coal generation. Currently the best... [more]
