Researchers from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) Sustainable Bioenergy Centre (BSBEC) have discovered a family of genes that could help us breed grasses with improved properties for diet and bioenergy. BHSL's new Top Loader stores, moves and dispenses up to 150 tonnes of biomass or other agricultural and waste products per day. It is driven by two 2.2kW motors, which operate via a programmable logic controller (PLC) using BHSL proprietary software. Compared with moving floors and walking floors, the Top Loader is extremely energy efficient.
